Game of Thrones New Blog! And GOT musical!!

To really keep my blog a little more organized, I'm going to try to have more of my Game of Thrones posts on a separate blog devoted to it.  I am going to start putting a lot more on GOT so I don't want it to dominate this one since I really want to mix it up on kodoyume.  Please check out my new GOT blog, Game of Thrones Yume (GOT dreams) for your more regular GOT fix as I start transitioning most of it over.  I'll still periodically post on GOT if I think it's really something awesome to share or talk about but things like weekly recaps and reviews will start going on that site.  Now, for something that must be shared as much as possible...

If you have been living under a rock and not seen the Game of Thrones 12 min musical with Coldplay, you have to see it now!

The Following Season Finale

So I'm a week late on writing the recap/review.  The reason being there were some major letdowns in the episode!  This is coming from a fan of the show and one who has really enjoyed this season up until the last few episodes.  I will say that there were also some great moments as well.  If you're reading this, I doubt I have to say beware of spoilers so let's get started...

Beginning with the good because there were still some pretty great moments to the show.  The entire sequence of events at the house with Ryan's former FBI boss was great except they really should have killed off the spouse because it's a trademark of the show for more characters to be killed. It was pretty great to see Theo actually capture Ryan and the shadow group with Eliza in turn capture Theo.  The highlight of the show was definitely the reveal of the doublecross by the FBI lead agent, Lisa.  I did not see that coming and was very excited to see what next.  Unfortunately this is where it fell apart a bit in this episode.  The ending with Ryan turned vigilante was pretty great and the way he killed off Lisa was a nice touch.

Now onto the bad parts of the episode...Theo's plan to capture Gwen just to raise Ryan's kid as a revenge sounded so ridiculous and uncharacteristic.  I know Theo was losing it a bit after his sister died but really that plan was so unlike him.  It would have made way more sense if he had just killed off Gwen but even in interviews, the producers had said that they were not expecting to be cancelled so they played it safe.  Killing a pregnant love interest would have been memorable and risky although also seen as a bit of a copycat for a certain famous movie.  But it would have been more believable and really set it up for Ryan's true conversion to be Joe's follower.  This was probably what bothered me most about how they treated Theo's character.  He was set up to be an even better, slicker and more ruthless villain than Joe Carroll and in the end, they made him seem desperate, dependent on others and careless.  Those are completely contradictory traits from how he was presented through the entire first half of the season.
Remember this Theo?
Or this one?

These do not make as much sense with this version of Theo

On a sidenote of what was not so great about the episode.  What was the purpose of Daisy?  Her story was a waste of time.  At least Emma had some backstory and was worth hating.  Daisy was just boring.  There was potential with the relationship with Mark or having her be the one to kill off Max or Gwen but instead she became useless.

Despite these shortcomings, I still enjoyed this season overall.  I just feel it had so much more potential and seemed to really go too far away from their winning formula from season 1.  I believe they started playing it too safe.  If they were renewed, would I have kept watching?  Yes, I would have enjoyed seeing Ryan go full vigilante.  I've heard rumors of Netflix picking it up but I don't have my hopes up too high.  Unless they can really make this a cheap show, considering the poor ratings and viewership of the last episodes, I do not think it will be continued unfortunately.  Well, hopefully there will be another more amazing show or at least this gives me a little more time to spend on my other fave shows like Game of Thrones and Grimm.

Flash Scanlation Fun and Skip Beat 224 Review

My experience of scanlation thus far... what can I say other than that it was satisfying to see the final result.  It was a quick and dirty product compared to the truly pro scanlations or even the ones I've done a decade ago with a group.  But having a perfect scanlation wasn't the goal really.  My goal was to scanlate as fast as possible because for me being a fan of manga myself, I get impatient sometimes waiting for the perfect scanlations to come out and I read the Chinese version and sometimes the Japanese raws too.  English is still the language I'm most comfortable with so I prefer reading it in English.  So one day I just had a thought of why wait, why not just make my own and see if others like to have it around the same time as when it comes out in raw or Chinese?  I can't be the only one who would love to see it asap even if it is in a grittier form.  I am nicknaming this my flash scans because my translations might have errors, it might not be pretty but it's meant to be fast.  It was also great to work on my Japanese and Chinese, though Chinese is my other native language (in terms of speech), my reading and writing isn't too great so it's great practice.  This was fun and I enjoyed it enough to do it again.

I would like to add that I totally enjoy Tatsukida Blogspot because it's a great resource to check my translations against and it's so fast as well.  But it definitely feels different to read summaries versus reading the actual manga for me.  I also really like the pro scans like those done by Imperial Scans or SkipBeat1.  I will try to be even faster and work on the quality piece next time around.  I actually meant to try to do a whole chapter in 1-2 days but that was a bit ambitious when I was this rusty and life got in the way.

Spoilers ahead (if these images didn't do it already)

So this chapter was so great, it makes me want to reread from the beginning.  I think the author might be finally building up to the big reveal with Kyoko realizing Ren is actually Corn.  I think this is a definite turning point.  My favorite "kyaaa" scenes are the ones above and to the left.  Of course the cherry on top for this entire chapter was the look and no...way... speech of Kyoko and Ren's super sheepish look.

I also feel as though she's finally putting the love triangle back into the picture to really give more resolution between Shou and Kyoko or build it up to some crazy dramatic moments.  I think the stuff with Kyoko's mom is interesting from a character development perspective where they're fleshing out Kyoko's history a little more but honestly I also find it a bit of a filler and a distraction from what I think everyone cares more about.  I do like the President and Yashiro's interactions.  I would like to see a few more surprising turns but I doubt she can really drag it out too much longer or try throwing any curb balls since it has been 13 years!?!

I didn't realize this was going on that long until I recently saw an image of how the artist's style has evolved and somewhere along the way someone commented on how long it's been.  Also, I just saw this on Facebook so I'm not sure who or where to put credit to this image so let me know so I can give credit where it's due.  I actually like how all the characters looked in Vol 16-20, but I especially like Kyoko and Ren in the recent volumes.

Skip Beat 224 English Scanlation Complete!

Yay!!  Finished my first full Skip Beat chapter.  There were some parts that were definitely tough to translate but proud of my work.  Hope you all enjoy and welcome all feedback!!

Skip Beat 224 English Scanlation Part 1

Still a little rusty on my scanlating so I welcome any suggestions and feedback, including font recommendations and translation corrections.  I used to be a part of a scanlation group a decade ago but it has been a decade.  Hope you all enjoy this chapter as much as I do.  I will try to scanlate the rest as fast as possible over the next couple of days.  I will definitely do a review of the chapter at a later time.  Also, please check out any sponsors and ads through finding out more about their products to help support the blog!  Thanks!

The Following S3 E12 & 13 Deal with the Devil

For those who have not seen the episode, all I will say is that it did not play out like I expected.

Now for those who have seen it, read on because there's spoilers.

So things I predicted and knew was going to happen... I was sure that they were going to go after Theo's weakness, i.e. sister.  I knew that a major character was going to get stabbed but I thought Max or Gwen was going to be the target and I thought it was going to be to death.  I knew Tom was going to be used and that he was going to probably be part of the plan to capture one of the good guys.

Now the parts that were a great surprise was Baconman going full on vigilante, capturing the sis and then torturing her (a little weak on the technique but this is primetime and not HBO).  They seemed to have toned down the graphic aspect of the show since season 1, other than the man in the box episode. I was also surprised that the way Tom was going down was going to be acid to the face, I expected him to be around a little longer and then get stabbed the traditional way.  I was also surprised by Daisy's betrayal against Mark but then this is reminiscent of Emma and her slicing her favorite boy's neck.  I think it is pretty obvious that Daisy is going down in the finale.

The moment Mike declared his undying love was the moment I was sure him or Max was going to get stabbed.  I was just expecting the stabbing to result in death but I guess they were not ready to go that far in case the show did get renewed.  I still think that if they knew they were getting cancelled they wouldn't have played it so safe and actually killed off Max or the pregnant Gwen.  It would have been very risque since shows tend not to kill off the pregnant girl but it did work well for a certain movie that I will not name.  But most who have seen it know exactly which one I'm talking about.

The most disappointing thing was seeing Theo play out as such a weak character in these episodes.  Considering all the buildup, I really expected him to pull out some more impressive killer techniques and plans but he is coming off a lot more desperate and short-sighted.  He also seems much more dependent on his groupies than his impressive lone wolf approach in his introductory episodes.  I hope that they step it up with the final episodes to make him or this new evil organization worth all the hype of the prior episodes.  Show some powerful, secret villain moves!

Anyway, it's hard to say what they will pack into the final two episodes but considering this week, I doubt they'll be killing off who I thought they would.  I'll be posting screenshots later on and probably add a couple to my Baconman Series...  Now the question is what new characters or scenes should I add to my collection?  I was doing it all basic MS paint with the help of some Imgur effects but now I think I'm ready to upgrade to trying out GIMP software for my fun little project.

Game of Thrones S5 E5 Kill the Boy

To start off with some humor:
Game of Thrones Poor Fiance Choices

Now onto the discussion of the actual episode
So many things happened this episode... and yet now that I have had time to digest it, it seems that most of this episode was just setup for later drama.

Do not read on if you don't want spoilers.
We begin with the beginning of the episode which was focused on the mourning of the death of a character that I have heard was not in the books.

I can't say that I was as attached as Daenerys to Barristan but it was a great catalyst to this:

It was great to see her other dragons in action again, I have to say that her keeping them locked up seems both sad and unlike how I imagined her character to be.  So it's great to see that she is making good use of any prisoners or people she doesn't like for pet food.  I also like seeing her vengeful side as it shows she's not always a scared little girl like she was when she seemed afraid of her own dragons.
Now onto my other favorite character, Jon Snow.  Tyrion round out my top 3 of course.  Jon Snow is finally showing more of his position and influence along with his compassion for people.  It has been quite interesting to see him interact with Stannis.  I really did not care for Stannis but he has really grown on me.  But the fact that I like him more now just means that he's likely to be killed off.

How could you not love the softy?  But I have to say that I think everyone feels like Daenerys and Jon are destined and considering how they are both learning how to rule with internal conflicts over their decisions seems to be growing pains that they experience at the same time.  I don't see Cersei or Stannis even feeling as bad over their decisions or conflicted half as much as those two do but I suppose that's also because they're used to this Game.

Brienne, she was much more likable when paired with Jaime.  Now I'm really not sure what she's there for...  But I suppose that's part of the entire setup story.

Is it bad that I like Ramsey and that he amuses me even though he is pure evil and a sadist?  I'm not sure why but he's so much more entertaining than Joffrey even though they're both villains.  Perhaps it is because how he seems so completely desperate for his father's approval, which makes him less one dimensional.  Or that he has these dark humor moments like the now "let's cut the tension" dinner conversation.  Is it bad that I kind of want Sansa to actually fall in love with him to see him turn good?  Though it is interesting that she just went from one bloodthirsty fiance to another...  Well, with Tyrion as a husband sandwiched in the middle so I guess she had one decent almost spouse?  Yes, I almost forgot that happened also.

Speaking of Tyrion, they finally got off that boat.  As I mentioned, this episode has been just a buildup episode to setup for the future.  Daenerys' part was to finally get control of her mini kingdom and set up for the gladiator battles.  Jon Snow segment was for his venture to save the Wildlings and maybe bring forth the zombie story finally.  Afterall, how long has winter been coming for? Stannis and Ramsey heading towards each other in epic battle I expect.  And of course, Tyrion and rock diseased Jorah finally getting to Daenerys.  Sidenote: beautiful picture of the twosome on the right.

Game of Thrones & Disney Frozen Crossover: Daenerys + Elsa = Daenelsa

In honor of the new episode of Game of Thrones coming out tonight and the fact that I just watched Frozen for the X (lost count) time.  For mother's day I bring you Daenelsa, Mother of Ice and Dragons.  I figured since it's my first one, I can play around with the color and photo style effects.  I'll try to do better ones in the future:
